Technology overview:

The series of tools for TAML Level 4 multilateral well is capable of achievement of sidetracking inside Ф244.5mm casing, selective reentry of main and branch boreholes, and forming of the supported multilateral well drilling and completion technology. Currently, the technology has reached a domestic leading and international advanced technical level, was awarded one of the “Top Ten Petroleum Science and Technology Advancements 2009” by CBPC in 2009, and was awarded 28 authorized patents.

Application field:

TAML Level 4 multilateral well drilling and completion operations in the sidetracking inside Ф244.5mm casing.

Technical features:

Capable of completion of the setting, positioning and directional sidetracking operations of the whipstock at one trip of drilling;

Using hook fishing with simple working procedures, short operation time and low risk;

Wall hook hanging mode with convenient construction process and high reliability;

Guide sleeves and adjustable guide shoes specially designed for more flexible and reliable reentry;

Selective reentry of main and branch boreholes;

Large borehole drift diameter (Æ146mm+Æ154.8mm) upon the well completion, which is more conducive to the oil production and stimulation operations.

Application effect:

The TAML Level 4 multilateral well drilling and completion tools and technology developed independently have been successfully applied in 4 wells successively.

In 2005, the tools and technology were first successfully applied in DC024 double multilateral well in Xinjiang oilfield. The sidetracking position is at 1345m, the total depth of main and branch boreholes is 1710m and 1774.48m respectively, and Ф139.7mm casing cementing and perforation completion are used for the two boreholes with a completion difficulty of TAML Level 4.

In 2007, the tools and technology were successfully applied in LUHW301Z Double Branch Horizontal Well in Xinjiang oilfield, with the sidetracking position at 991m, and the total depth of main and branch boreholes of 1557.57m and 1556.59m respectively. Ф139.7mm casing and screen pipe half-path cementing is used for the two boreholes with a completion difficulty of TAML Level 4.

In 2010, the tools and technology were successfully applied in Hechuan 001-Z45-F double multilateral well in Southeast Oilfield, with the sidetracking position at 1072.49m, and the total depth of main and branch boreholes of 2,554m and 2713m respectively. Ф139.7mm casing cementing and perforation completion are used for the two boreholes with a completion difficulty of TAML Level 4.

In 2010, the tools and technology were successfully applied in Anyue 101-Z56 double multilateral well in Southwest Oil and Gas Field, with the sidetracking position at 1311.09m, and the total depth of main and branch boreholes of 2575m and 2754m respectively. Ф139.7mm casing cementing and perforation completion are used for the two boreholes with a completion difficulty of TAML Level 4.
